Your Private Practice GPS: Do You Know Where You Are Going?

We have worked with hundreds of practices and there is one universal truth across-the-board. When we asked the question, “where are you going to be in 10 years?” we always get blank stares, and it’s completely understandable. Most private practice owners are just trying to survive through the end of the week, and they aren’t worried about what’s happening in 10 years. Here’s the problem with living like that, if you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.

Think of it this way. Let’s say you live on the East Coast. Do you want to get to California? Well, all you need to do is just head west, right? You will get there eventually. This is actually true, but I’m going to go ahead and bet that none of you reading this would use that strategy. So why are you doing that with one of the most important assets in your life: your private practice?

If you want to get to California, you would be best served using some kind of mapping technology. Most likely your GPS. The GPS for your private practice is your 10-year mission. Here’s an example of one of our clients using their 10-year mission as their GPS.

“I have been doing this for 18 years and it has been a challenge. I never had a road map on how to do this stuff. NLPT provided that blueprint for me! This is a group that owners can trust!” – Amira Tal-Henig

The GPS For Your Private Practice

Download my one page 10 year mission time machine worksheet at the bottom of this post. On that sheet, you will see the main categories you have to think about when it comes to building the practice of your dreams.

Find a quiet place, close your eyes, and put down whatever comes to mind when you are walking around your practice 10 years from now. This exercise is so much fun and if you are looking for some inspiration, I’m not sure you could find a better exercise. Now, I can’t teach you how to create a 10-year mission with one page, but I can at least get you started.

Download our one page 10 year mission worksheet and fill it out. This will at least get your car pointed in the right direction. After you’re done, if you want to get on a call to go over what you came up with, just click on my Calendly link here.
